Our club is part of Rotary International, a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business and professional men and women representing about 33,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 nations.
We are a diverse group of men and women who participate in many other local activities. The Columbia Rotary Club is one of the oldest clubs in the District, dating back to 1935. One thing that has always impressed me is when we have a project, if we possibly can, we all show up. That has never been a problem with this club in the 20 years I have been a member. Because of that, we share the load and no one is overburdened. And we do enjoy ourselves.
The club's annual dues are $45 each December and June (a total of $90/year.) A large portion of that goes to the district and national organization some of which comes back to us in the form of grants and services. Additionally, we pay $8 every two weeks for our dinner when we meet at Lindsey Wilson, $1 of which goes to our treasury. If we come to the meeting and do not eat, we pay just the $1.
We raise most of our operating and community support funds with fund-raising projects throughout the year. We have managed to do a good job of keeping those projects not only as painless as possible, but fun.
